Leaving Powerport

In 2005 I organised my 20 year Forest High School reunion. In 2006 I was planning another informal annual event. I decided to mention my redundancy and this blogsite in an email to former students. Many students checked it out. In my research into local companies and industries I had come across a publishing company called Powerport that looked interesting. I added their name to my list of companies I would like a referral to on this blog. Turns out a former student was a director and they were looking for someone to fill a vacant General Manager role. Instead of just a referral I had the two directors reading my online resume and contacting me for an interview!!

In my 12 months as Powerport’s CEO I added new products and services, dramatically cut operating costs and increase revenue to a place where it became profitable. However the level of previous investment in the company meant a dramatic increase in sales revenue was still required to make it worthwhile.

An experienced sales manager in the mortgage broking industry became available. As a small company Powerport was not in a position to hire additional staff so my role was terminated in order to offer him a role. This new person’s knowledge, experience and existing contacts within the industry will hopefully generate the dramatic increase in sales that is required.

I am proud of what I have accomplished in those 12 months and, while disappointed, can agree the Directors made a sensible decision for the future of their business.
